A new Board? Any interest?

As Bob alluded to earlier....there is a lot of disagreement here on the board, but I have met some of the posters I most disagree with and like them....they are people, like me, with strong opinions and a passionate desire to have those opinions heard. That I can respect....their opinions? not so much. But I sure won't deny the mob mentality that permeates many threads.....it's not, however, as bad as it used to be.

Good thread OTN. At least you got people thinking and maybe self-reflecting. Good luck!

In fact the primary audience I am speaking to is 285bound staff. They are loosing posters left and right. They are coming back up and saying so, even though I bet sciencechic is running the numbers.

I will say it clearly now.

My goal was to get people to talk about this again. which we are and to drive it home that there is likely a business cost and a community cost to the way LJ interacts with this company.

If real demand does continue to develop, there will be another board. This thread was designed specifically to avoid that and help the company that has set up this great community that is being ruined by some of those that moved in.

Sorry to end this by playing games with others in the community that have been decent, I have just had it and have tried a number of other ways.

Thanks to all those that have enlightened me by sharing their thoughts carefully. Please don't bother to respond to me, just write a note on some paper and flush it, I will be more likely to see your response that way as I am kayaking the knar.

I call BS on this post! Admit it LJ has made you look foolish time and time again.. So you finally got sick of it and thought you had a great idea. Well.... By page trhee it was pretty apparent you were on your own and you decided to play the GOTCHA! "I played you all" card to save face. You my friend are the problem.

A new board won't change the dynamics. They reflect the country as a whole. We care more about boosting our " team" and tearing down " theirs". Ladyjazzer isn't the only one. On both left and right assumptions are made, insults thrown, logic ignored. The big gun debate is an excellent example. Everyone pretends that either a total ban or arming everyone with AKs are the only solutions, when neither is seriously on the table. I believe a vocal few enjoy the rush of verbal combat, thus muddying the waters for those of us who wish an intellectual discussion. Science Chic tried to deal with this by having The Ring, but cross-contamination seems inevitable. Making sure you never hear anyone whose opinion differs from yours just makes it all worse. Model the behavior you'd like to see from others, don't hesitate to call out bad behavior from " your" side and things may slowly change. How many new boards have been started just to die and familiar voices are forever lost in the process?

If there was another board i would use it. Pinecrud is overmoderated and 285bound is too lax. I always thought the courthouse was for meaningful discussion and the ring for all the crap I see in the courthouse. There isn't any point discussing anything because it won't be meaningful. imo raees and s***shiner are as bad as lj. So it is understandable why many just join in the crap or don't post at all.

People won't come here. I used to recommend it as well but most are appalled that I would choose to be associated with such crap and how could I possibly recommend it.

Sadly businesses have left or just plain will not be associated with this site.

LJ and others continually chose to not self moderate and are prime examples on how to destroy a business. Will I ever take anything seriously that LJ or others who continually spew crap write? No because I won't read it which is too bad because sometimes LJ can actually make some sense if you can stand to wade through the BS.

LJ is the nastiest poster we have right now on 285bound. She's full of hate, disdain, loathing and she is a man hating witch. She's also highly infected with the terrible affliction known as Socialism and liberal politics. She irritates both men and women here- I have recieved more PM's with regard to LJ than any other poster on here.

But would I ban her.....

Lets face it- if LJ goes through life the way she posts on here- she has to be living pretty low- and people pick up on nastyness. She probably dosn't get laid because who would want to touch her? Don't worry- karma is a bitch- an even bigger bitch than LJ and what comes around goes around.

I found the comments about the bar where fancy people don't go to be quite apropos. I actually hang out in a saloon in Evergreen with a seedy reputation. I know there are "fancy" people who never would step foot in there. There's also people who you wouldn't think would ever go there- but they do every now and then.

There's a few characters in there that would scare the normal person away- but if you really get to know them one might come away with a different impression. It's kind of that way here on 285bound. There are a lot of good people- and there are a few who were raised in a barn by parents who neglected to teach any sort of decorum. One guy I know approaches the tables of fancy people with an intimidating attitude (usually pretty drunk) and tries to engauge the table in conservation- particularly if there are a few nice looking women. It's interesting to see the reaction from people- everything from disgust and fear to amusment. Those who take it lighthearted fair the best.

That said- we all get to the point where dealing with these kind of people grinds on our nerves- that's when it's best to take a break for a bit. But lets face it- this is the world we live in- this is reality. If I just hang out at the country club - I wouldn't ever know what the real world is like.

I'd much rather deal with reality- than try to create an artificial world to live in. Ironically- it's the liberal mindset who wants more than anything- to change human nature and create some utopian pipe dream instead of finding solutions within the natural law of human kind.

If we are wussies- then we will let the LJ's of the world keep us away from this "saloon", but if we just think about it for a minute- who the hell is she? I wouldn't give her that kind of power over me. Like they say - a hater is gonna hate.

So I hope everyone who has admitted that they stay away from here because of a few posters- take your break.... but then come back and join us again! This is better than a board that is controlling, believe me. I'd rather hang out with the out of control riff-raff---- than be controlled.

I may take a break now and then- but I'll come back here until LJ registers as a republican, maybe longer.

I'm a new guy trying to find a home in the area and have recently been interested in politics. Theres alot I still don't understand about our government and I like being able to read your opnions on both sides. However, I'm not sure I want to get into the kind of hateful arguments and name calling I see around here. I know i don't have a thick skin biut I also don't uderstand why I have to have one either. I'm living with one of my best friends who also posts here (he stopped though) and he told me I wouldn't last a day here, and he was right. Where I'm from there isnt this kind of hate between neighbors but we also dont use the internet to talk politics either (usually bellied up to a bar with a beer). I dipped my toe into this section a few times and have regretted it but I'm not giving up yet. I think it would be cool to have a place that really was like a courthouse where people come to state their case without the fear of being called names or accused of thinking a certain way that is not true.

After lurking around here for a few months I noticed that the bad blood seems to come from the same few people in almost every post. I don't think these people would ever be tolerated in real life even if I agreed with what they said. If one of my friends makes a horrible comment that embarrasses me I let them know about it. I used to have a friend who thought it was cool to make a racist coment here and there and we eventually parted ways becuase of it. I see the same thing here when people say you liberals are this or you conservatives are that. If you think you can lump people together based on what you think you know about any group, you are just like a racist because you don't really know what is in the heart of any individual.

Instead of calling each other names, maybe you should just try to be adults and give your opinions. I don't know how any of you name callers could feel good when you log off each day especially when you live in such a beautiful area.

Moderating a board is very tough. Another board asked me to moderate and I told them no fing way!

Personally I think there is a nice balance here. Sure some people are quite rude, but it seems to me like the rudeness comes up when their arguments are falling flat.

And like some have posted above, certain people are much tougher on the internet than in real life. It is like my dogs. If they are on a leash, they are tough guys, "hold me back, I am going to kill this poodle", but when they get off the leash, and they know the other dog can get them, they get real friendly.

Bottom line, if you don't like the tone, watch your own. I see people complaining here that are every bit as bad, or worse, than LadyJazzer. The only person who can fix it is you.
