Looks like Obama finally is wising up and listening to the Republicans rather than Pelosi and Reid. Good for him! This last election may have saved America's economy and will start reducing unemployment. :woo hoo:

The White House and Republican lawmakers were close to an agreement on a broad tax package that would extend the Bush-era rate cuts, reduce worker payroll taxes for one year and give more favorable treatment to new business investments.

As the White House and Republican leaders try to reach a deal to extend cuts, one idea that could gain traction is a temporary payroll-tax holiday. Jerry Seib has details. Plus, T. Boone Pickens' wife says 'nay' to Nevada ranchers.

Tax Deal Within Reach Other possible elements of the still-developing deal include a temporary reinstatement of the estate tax at 35%—the level favored by most Republican lawmakers—as well as an extension of jobless benefits for the long-term unemployed and temporary tax breaks for students and working families.

Under the plan discussed by the White House and congressional Republicans, the levy would be set at 35% for two years and would apply only to estates over $5 million, said people familiar with the talks.

Obama even agreed on more tax CUTS!!

The version of a payroll-tax holiday under discussion now would reduce the 6.2% Social Security tax levied on a worker's wages to 4.2%. A worker making $40,000 a year would save $800, and some economists say that could help stimulate demand at a time when it's remained relatively weak.

Lawmakers and administration officials also are considering a White House plan to encourage more investment in plant and equipment, by letting companies claim deductions on 100% of most kinds of investment.

A provision of the 2009 stimulus bill gave businesses the ability to deduct 50% of the cost of many types of property in the first year, and also allowed small businesses to fully expense amounts up to $250,000.

You gotta love when the Republicans take back the control and get things done!!! :woo hoo: :woo hoo:

Damn Liberals in congress just want to argue and fight and not fix things. They are the REAL party of NO!!

But the discussions are angering some liberal groups who say Democrats should engage the GOP in a showdown, even if it risks letting the tax cuts expire for all income levels. In an email to its members, the liberal Moveon.org said, "They've given up on this critical issue without a fight."

So with the Democratic plan, the deficit would have been reduced by $700 billion over ten years, and with this winning plan by the Republicans, the deficit will be increased $900 billion over two years. Way to go Republicans!

Yup, the Republicans paid back their rich owners and increased the deficit exponentially. Goody. I'm sure my kids are delighted to pay for the tax cut for the top 2% who have seen their take home increase by 10% while the rest of America's went down. Good for the Republicans- by Mark Twains figuring they are honest politicians. {“An honest politician is one who, when he is bought, will stay bought"}

I can't remember the last time I heard so many Dem voters whine. The right thing must of been done.
