I was at the Bonita Springs Dog Track with lil precious...We sat up in the exclusive clubhouse and we had a bank of TV's in front of us...The TV's all had live simulcasts of all the tracks in the country, but one had CNN on...Well, i'm lookin at the TV and CNN is in my driveway and it said something about a Forest Fire in Colorado on the crawl...I called a nieghbor and he said there's nothing to worry about, so we didn't..When we got home a few weeks later I learned that we had a lot to worry about.

WOW LV. Thanks for your personal story about the Hayman Fire. It is great to see what everyone was up to during the fire. LOL

I still remember my daughter telling me that she was at work in a Taco Bell in California when a news report came over the radio about the Hayman and she said "that's my fire!" she, of course, knew that we were on 'prepare to evacuate' status so she was interested in any information she could get.

Did a little road trip today out Hwy 126 and Hwy67 (same) to Woodland Park for an appointment today. Took a few pics with my phone to see what 8 years had accomplished after the fire.

#1 is what it should look like.



But sadly, it does not. This had to have been one of the most scenic drives you could ask for before 3 Major wildland fires decimated it.

first let me say that i am not a big fan of fires in the community. they pretty much freak me out. but there is some good that comes from the fires. yes, it looks like a disaster area but it provides new growth with grasses, flowers, bushes which feed the wildlife. have you ever considered that the overgrowth of trees destroys wildlife habitat. the alternative is to selectively thin the trees on your property and do some wildfire mitigation around the home.

what really scares me is seeing just how overgrown the entire mountain area is. looks like a crowning fire kind of disaster waiting to happen.
