Really?

I don't think I have ever been so disgusted with what I'm reading here, and that includes our Teddy time. We can keep moving threads all day long if all you want to do is attack your fellow posters, cuz the Ring is where they belong.

This election was divisive but we're neighbors. We've had neighbors who lost everything, including loved ones this year in fire after fire in this state and this nation. We've watched the east coast get hammered with millions out of power, homes gone, livelihoods obliterated and you're posting a "Becky watch"????? Or harassingly quoting something another poster snapped at you in frustration over and over and over again? Our local businesses are facing another tough winter and many are just scraping by. How about focusing on the big picture, and getting out and doing something to help? Good god, now I sound like a fucking PC mod and that pisses me off. I do not want to lecture, but this is ridiculous.

I'm going to a Chamber mixer that's designed to help showcase a local business, one that is, by the way, also struggling. Feel free to join me.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

We tried to help all the people and all the businesses- but the socialist got re-elected anyway.

The homes lost in the fire will be pale in comparison to everybody and every family who loses their job and gets their homes forclosed upon next year.

That's my only frustration - really.

SC really believed that her neighbors here were not so illiberal as to transfer to the person the disdain that was expressed for the ideology held when it differed from one's own.

Some are capable of that, others are not. True colors of bigotry are most visible right now. Before the election, one could pretend that it was merely partisanship. That excuse no longer exists. What SC took for partisan support is being exposed for the ugly bigotry that actually exists in the hearts of a few of her neighbors.

That, IMNTBHO, is why she finds it so disheartening. She actually thought some of you were better people than you are turning out to be.

Really, Printsmith, "you people". You exclude yourself from the incivility of this forum, with your constant broadbrush name calling?

Edited to add: I do not exclude myself from this issue. I understand Sciencechic's frustration, and know that I add frequently to it. However, the point of distinction between this and Pinecam was the unmoderated free flowing discourse which as in the definition of entropy under the laws of thermodynamics, in an isolated system, nature tends from order tends to disorder.

You are either going to have a heavily moderated plain vanilla community bulletin board or a disorderly entropic mess. Your decision. While ScienceChic no doubt desires an orderly pleasant discussion board, that ain't gonna happen without moderation. Since there are in the scheme of things so few posters, we all know our viewpoints and touch points and do not hesitate to hit them. Self moderation would be a great thing, but unless all do it, no one will do it.

That is classic. PS is one of the most civil posters here. He almost never resorts to name calling even when provoked.

sorry, I edited my previous post while you were posting.

Nope, just pointing out that while you prefer to sit on high and condescend downward on the rest, you are equally snarky as per your post here, and just as much as guilty at the frustration level of Sciencechic. The only difference is that I am able to freely admit it and not sit in on judgement of others.

Nah, I just get a kick out the hypocrites who label others when they are just as bad or worse offenders.

Some of the posters getting hammered really brought it on themselves with the tone of their posts over the past 6 months. When you have a minimally moderated board and you let the posters say all of the brutal things they have, then you are going to have the backlash posts as well. We all know that if Romney would have won, the avalanche of brutal posts from those on here who are on the Right would have been nasty and large. Civility has never been the hallmark of the Courtroom on 285. I can't blame LJ for flinging it back for all of the shit that been said toward and about her. Becky came on here lately and became ruder and ruder and shot off her mouth and now isn't even coming on here to face the music for everything she has said. I wouldn't be interested in making peace with all of the posters who have brutally attacked LJ personally if I were her either.

If the rude and snarky posts were all moved to the Ring in the beginning, maybe the toxic atmosphere could have been tamed. But by letting it all go for so long, we all know that this is what this board is all about, the faceless name calling and taunting of those you disagree with. Personal attacks are the hallmark of this forum. It keeps everyone coming back and keeps the click count up. Now that the election is over, the bitterness of the losing side is really showing and since they believe the collapse of America is near, they have given up being anywhere near civil. I gained some respect for Romney for his concession speech. It would be impressive if his followers on here could follow his attitude of coming together for the country. I won't hold my breath though...
