Why depicting Obama as a monkey is always racist

More generalities with no basis in fact. I think he's actually a conservative, if you read his previous posts. He just thinks for himself and isn't afraid to question other conservatives. I admire that.

I have never received an email with a racial joke in it. I don't know what I'm doing different, but I just don't get them. I get plenty of spam mails that I don't look at - maybe they fall in there? When I open one by mistake, I've got images blocked.

If someone I knew sent something like that, it'd go in the trash, and any subsequent emails form them would go in the junk folder and be ignored. No warning, no response, no second chances. Whenever anyone sends me a joke email, I ask to be taken off their list. One friend got all butt-hurt when I told them I thought chain emails (send this to 8 of your friends) were spawned from the devil hisself to waste our time.

That is what I do. So really maybe it is just me that gets them. So official in the original story is really bad to pass that on. Was I wrong to believe some on here were defending it?

The only issue I had was the use of the word 'always' in the title. I have tried to show several examples of how Obama could be compared to a chimp or monkey with no racial intent. IMHO, it's wrong to assume racial intent unless it is blatant.

I think the article is wrong. I think the picture could easilly be construed as racist, but could also be defended as simply saying Obama is bringing on the downfall of the US - as shown in the movie "Planet of the Apes". Personally, I looked at the picture and thought the inclusion of his wife proved the racial intent.

No, I would not pass along anything like that.

Always was in the OP article. that is why I used it. Always is a word I try not to use very often. I think that if it could be taken wrong or racist you are an idiot to hang on to the argument that you should be "allowed to" because you want to. You a re perpetuating a stereotype.

I do not believe always is a good word but really I agree that the likelihood of monkeys being used racially over being an idiot is just too hard to miss. Why not avoid it?

Now, another argument. Telling a person that they were racist because they talked about lynching in a cartoon (tiger woods) and it was not in that context at all. That is PC crap and I don't agree with it.

I also believe in respect for the president. When some of those libs went after bush and called him names, i disagreed with it. BTW, I am not a baby boomer.

And, for the record I do not believe everything in that article. But I don't like the monkey reference.

Can we play 'what ifs'?

What if I created a cartoon that depicted the entire legislative branch of the federal government as poo-slinging monkeys with typewriters in front of them captioned "given enough time, they'll write something coherent"...

I linked to it from someone else's website - I have no claims on it. They have some really cute pics...

No,not racist at all. I think what CG has been trying to say is that the racism is perceived by the recipient more than it is intended by the originator. Posting something that is easliy percieved as racist is akin to shouting "Fire" in a crowded theatre.
