Why depicting Obama as a monkey is always racist

I have never received an email with a racial joke in it. I don't know what I'm doing different, but I just don't get them. I get plenty of spam mails that I don't look at - maybe they fall in there? When I open one by mistake, I've got images blocked.

If someone I knew sent something like that, it'd go in the trash, and any subsequent emails form them would go in the junk folder and be ignored. No warning, no response, no second chances. Whenever anyone sends me a joke email, I ask to be taken off their list. One friend got all butt-hurt when I told them I thought chain emails (send this to 8 of your friends) were spawned from the devil hisself to waste our time.

I do think the picture is racist personally but it in now way shows the Republicans or more racist than Democrats.

Pozdrowienia!
What I find intresting, was that Polocks, were just one of many groups that would fill in as the butt of the jokes, though the years, heard the same joke, as Blacks, Jews, Irish, and Polish...
You cook any Polish dishes?

Growing up I had a friend whose parents heritage was Polish. Loved the perogies and kielbasa. Store bought is okay, home made was great.

That is what I do. So really maybe it is just me that gets them. So official in the original story is really bad to pass that on. Was I wrong to believe some on here were defending it?

The only issue I had was the use of the word 'always' in the title. I have tried to show several examples of how Obama could be compared to a chimp or monkey with no racial intent. IMHO, it's wrong to assume racial intent unless it is blatant.

I think the article is wrong. I think the picture could easilly be construed as racist, but could also be defended as simply saying Obama is bringing on the downfall of the US - as shown in the movie "Planet of the Apes". Personally, I looked at the picture and thought the inclusion of his wife proved the racial intent.

No, I would not pass along anything like that.

That is total BS! It is based upon preconceived notions. Racism is quite alive north of the Mason Dixon line with more enthusiasm than the south.

Really? and you've lived both places?

Yes, I have. I also have a brother who has lived in the northeastern states for 25 years. I have relatives on the west coast, east coast, the south, midwest.

Ah, well I've only lived in the west and the south. The south is much more racist - by a large margin.

Last night on the radio was the first time that I heard that a woman in the Republican party forwarded this image to many other people on her email list. Mentioned in this newscast was the report that it was racial in nature.

Then your experience is quite limited, which limits your world view.

What were the riots in Watts several decades ago all about? What was the hubbub about Angela Davis? What was Charlie Manson about? What happened after the Rodney King decision? Where were the Black Panthers popular? Ever hear of Wounded Knee?

You and LJ are living in the sterotypes.
