Hell now I am trying to figure out how I got my post in the middle of yours, must be some of that PFM stuff

Actually I know folks from both sides and they are all really great folks, that do really great things.

I'm just now able to check in and caught up on this thread. I don't think I can post anything that will help some change their minds about a community charity. That's the way it is and we will just have to agree to disagree. Bottom line, as I said before, what is important is that we don't forget about our troops. Providing them with comfort items and personal messages in cards shows our community support of these individuals. It matters not if you provide this show of support through TSAC, a to-be-formed independent organization, another fine charity, or on your own like some have shared, above. The "how" and "who" isn't important. The fact that these brave men and women know that we care (and perhaps they really enjoy a special snack or the mix that improves the taste of their drinking water) is all that matters.

I would also like to provide clarification on your two quoted assumptions. There are no co-mingled funds (bank account nor monies) between the TSAC charitable organization and pinecam. There is only one TSAC bank account and only two authorized signors on that account. The TSAC Treasurer and the Secretary are the only signors. Neither of these individuals are associated with the management (mod, admin, owner, and the like) of pinecam.

If you have additional concerns or questions, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks for the information, freebird.

And, I totally agree:

Becky - how do you pack homemade cookies to send? I've heard individually wrapped, then in a bigger bag.

None of us will waste the postage to send you, VL - unless you're volunteering to be used for target practice.

We do not wrap individual cookies. We put about 8-12 in a smaller zip lock, then put several of them in a larger zip lock.

The best way I have found to ship cookies requires:
Waxed paper
2 - Ziploc large rectangular disposable containers
4-8 slices of bread
1 - US Postal Service shirt size Flat Rate box

Pack the cookies in the Ziploc containers using wax paper between the layers. After the last layer of cookies or brownies, top with waxed paper and slices of fresh bread until the container seals tightly and the contents do not rattle. (Note: Do not use homemade bread. The preservatives in the bread are needed to keep the bread from molding during shipping.)

Place one container upside down and one container right side up in the Flat Rate box. They will fit snugly and not rattle. The bread will dry out during shipping, but the bake goods will remain moist and intact.

A nice way to send your Soldier a birthday cake in a jar. It is hard to have a Soldier away on their birthday so we have a way for you to get them that cake while they are overseas.

It is notoriously hard to ship cupcakes. When trying to ship cupcakes, there is that pesky problem of keeping the cupcakes from turning upside-down and the gift arriving as a frosted box rather than frosted cupcakes.

When I was sending items to my soldier's angels guys I found microwave fudge package at Walmart and they could make their own.

If they are out in the field......they cannot make their own.
That works fine for guys on big bases but very often, they are outside the base.

Whew - imagine my surprise reading this thread. Interesting, funny, and enlightening.

The drama and ugliness - I won't comment on. It speaks for itself.

However, just to keep everyone informed - we (TSAC) are working with 285Bound to come on over and join the party! Y'all will be required to play nice on the forum threads, however. Moderation will be minimal, and hopefully not needed at all.

Our men and women overseas need our support. I remember my field-duty days; I'd have given my right arm for a chocolate chip cookie or something besides stale water to drink. That's what we do - make their lives a bit more tolerable by sending comfort items. Have you heard how nasty the water over there tastes? They need hydration, but many will forego it because of the nasty water. A little packet of Crystal Light (or something similar) can really make their day. They don't care if you love or hate Pinecam, they're just thirsty. Let's keep politics outta the way, deal?

So, pitch in, come help us pack and see what we're all about. We'll have a booth at Emily's Parade this weekend, come on by and introduce yourself. And have a cookie while you're there. But don't be surprised if I attempt to recruit you as a TSAC member - we need all the help we can get. :)

Edited to add ('cuz I couldn't help mahself): Yup, alot of the folks over there probably would enjoy some good beer & porn - however, those items cannot be shipped and are forbidden by the local government over there, and well - it'd just be kinda weird if we packed porn.
