What Would End The Protests?

On a separate note, I was appalled at the statement issued by the governor of MO yesterday. HIs statement made note of the need for justice for the family of the deceased and called for a vigorous prosecution of the cop. That sounds a lot like there has been a predetermined outcome for how he wants this resolved, doesn't it? The call should have been one for a "vigorous" and thorough investigation and a need to ensure that there is a fair and just application of the law, especially given the animus and bias of Obama and the man he dispatched into the area who is supposed to be arriving today.

I totally agree. These are unbelievably biased statements, especially considering they are from an individual who I understand is an experienced lawyer, past Attorney General, and current top executive of the state.

Not when your main desire is to foment, rather than heal, racial tensions - which is exactly what is desired by both the current federal administration and the media based on their actions to date.

Has anyone seen it consistently reported that Wilson was treated for injuries sustained to his face after Brown was killed? The thug strong-arm robs a store, another tidbit that seems to be missing from most of the reports and attacks a police officer shortly before he is fatally shot and somehow this is information which the "reporters" fail to include in their "reports"?

The only correct answer to the question is this... the cop needs to be indicted, convicted, and sentenced to a very long jail term, regardless what the actual evidence shows. Nothing else will satisfy the people who have already tried and convicted the cop, nothing.

And if the highly unlikely not guilty verdict was to come in, there will be riots x 10 and there will be blood in the streets.

Anyone remember California in the early '90's...the cops that beat Rodney King & "got off"?

Doesn't seem like "we" ever learn, does it?

So what's your point? Should we just assume this cop is guilty before his side is told? There is no video (except for Brown being a criminal thug),and there are witnesses with conflicting stories. As for what "we" learn, what did "we" learn about the OJ trial?

What we really should learn is that race shouldn't be the first determining factor for guilt. If the cop was black, or if Michael Brown was white, there would be no interest in this story and there would be no protests. Guilt should be determined by due process and FACTS. Justice may not always be served in the end, but that doesn't mean we should look for payback to make up for past injustices.

With the massive amount of surveillance in the area, the retention of the looters seems easily done. The Constitutional right to peaceful assembly should never be infringed.

Now IF the numbers I have seen are correct, the Blacks have 60-70 % of the votes, and in November, simply get rid of the white power structure of the town.......that works really well.

The cop obviously used excessive force, and will pay the price, the police because they mismanaged the issue were relieved, and now the FEDS are running the show. IF the cop is not tried for at least manslaughter......stand by for possible national uprisings.......this guy is to be sacrificed, unfortunately.

Sad time in the MIDWEST.

So you are advocating let them riot and round them up later to hold them accountable for the destruction and mayhem they caused? You and I may have an irreconcilable difference here CB - I don't view rioting and looting as peaceable assemblies; and truth be told, I would tend to classify them as being the polar opposite of a peaceable assembly.

I also think we have a fundamental disagreement about whether or not the officer used excessive force. The next step up the ladder of force from direct violence using one's limbs is the use of weapons and when one is attacked and fears for their life or safety, the use of weapons is, has been, and will remain to be, justifiable under the law.

Now you and I, as private citizens, have the option of removing ourselves, retreating, from a situation. Police officers do not enjoy that same privilege, especially with a perp who has shown a willingness to physically assault a police officer. This thug had already committed a strong-arm robbery that day, and let's be honest, few if any of us are likely to think or believe that it was the first one. LiveLeak is showing that Brown has a felony arrest for armed criminal action, first degree burglary, and 1st degree assault resulting in serious physical injury in November of last year. That, by the way is his adult criminal record; his juvenile records, which unconfirmed reports say contain a charge of 2nd degree murder, are still sealed despite his departure a couple of weeks ago.

Excessive force? You are going to have to work to convince me of that. From my current vantage point it looks like Brown did receive justice for his ongoing willingness to violate the rights of others in our civilized society. It's looking more and more like the cop did the community a favor and they should be hanging a medal around his neck instead of hanging him out to dry . . .

There is a lot of misinformation out there as there was in the Zimmerman case and I think this is one example. I don't know how anyone can draw a conclusion at this point since we've heard so little of the full story. Which is why people should give it time for the facts to come out before judging.

The LiveLeak story appears to be a different Michael Brown who is from Troy, Missouri and not from Ferguson. He has a middle initial of "R" and I haven't seen a middle name for the Ferguson Michael Brown (has one been reported?). But more significantly, his date of birth is listed as 1997 which means he can't be 18 which is the age reported for the Ferguson Michael Brown. Plus, haven't the police already said Michael Brown did not have a criminal record?

And now the endless array of justifications and excuses for the righteous anger that boiled over into riots and looting gets its day in the limelight . . .

Of course there is an answer for this - elect people who don't pass laws that steal from the poor instead of electing folks who have to find a way to pay for bigger government that promises to take care of you from cradle to grave and "protect" you from the "lawlessness" of rolling stops at stop signs.

My comment was extreme sarcasm & said in disgust for the human race...yes, the entire human race.

I am very saddened about what happened or is happening in Ferguson, what happened in California in the '90's after the police officers that beat Rodney King were found not guilty, about the people that are being shot and killed in Chicago every day, about all of the unnecessary killings & violence, and since OJ was brought into this...about Nicole's & Ron's murders.

I know first-hand what ripples murder has on generations of families...the cycle has to stop.

I am more saddened that this keeps happening...that "we" (I put "we" in quotes because it is a generalization of people...and while I know it may not apply to all people, I would put myself in the "we" generalization), do not learn from past mistakes, behaviors, or happenings.

I hear screams of "change" and "why" and one group blaming another who in turn blames another...but nothing changes...the same things keep happening over and over and over and over again. And people die.

I believe blame for this debacle lies with all involved...and instead of blaming the cops or blaming the young man who was shot or blaming one race or another, why won't "we" meet in the middle and figure out a way to make these types of sad things not happen?

I don't have any answers...but I do have a lot of tears and heart-ache.
